Creating an effective communication plan is one of a change managers key responsibilities, and critical
to project success. During the implementation of a new WMS (Work Management System) at one of our
major distribution centers, the change management team learned how challenging this can be when the
workforce most impacted is on the shop floor picking customer orders, packing material for shipment,
loading and unloading trucks, putting away new product, handling returns and damaged goods, and
managing mountains of paperwork. These employees have little or no access to email, and to
complicate the communication challenge further, English is a secondary language for many.
What we once considered to be a major communication challenge, turned out to be a big contributor to
success for our team. This session will focus on how we ditched digital communications for creative and
fun information sharing alternatives.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn the importance of targeted communications, and need to communicate differently to
various audiences
- Understand how a communication medium can be very successful in one environment, and not
effective in another
- Discover effective communication methods that do not rely on technology
- Rethink the way changes are rolled out in a warehouse, distribution center, and other
workplaces where employees do their work on the shop floor
